Sound Insulation Principle
The shell of the acoustic enclosure is made of a layer of impermeable metal material with certain weight and rigidity, usually 2 to 3 millimeters thick steel plate, with a damping layer laid on top. The damping layer is commonly made of fiber fabrics or materials soaked in damping glue (such as asphalt-soaked burlap, glass cloth, felt or asbestos wool, etc.), and sometimes specially made damping paste is used.
The damping layer is added to the shell to prevent the coincidence effect of the plate and the low-frequency resonance of the plate. The shell can also be made of wood or plastic plates. Lightweight sound insulation structures can be made of aluminum plates. For high-performance acoustic enclosures, a double-layer shell can be made, with the inner layer thinner than the outer layer; the distance between the two layers is generally 6 to 10 centimeters, filled with porous sound-absorbing materials. Sound-absorbing materials are added to the inner side of the enclosure to absorb sound and reduce noise in the cavity. A perforated protective panel is covered on this layer of sound-absorbing material, with the perforated area accounting for about 20 to 30% of the protective panel area.
Rubber pads are usually filled between the enclosure and the machine, and between the enclosure and the foundation to prevent the transmission of vibration. Openable valves and observation holes should be well sealed. For equipment that requires heat dissipation, necessary ventilation ducts should be left on the acoustic enclosure. These ducts should have sound insulation structures or be equipped with silencers. When designing the acoustic enclosure, it is necessary to meet the requirements of process and maintenance, and sometimes measures to prevent oil stains, dust and corrosion should be taken.
